Once you have assigned a new version number to your package, you should let other developers and the software librarian know about it. Usually the best way to do is to send a mail to some mailing list all developers are subscribed to. In some projects this may be automated with the use of a Web-form that will send the announcement mail when the form is processed. You should check your local development policies to learn exactly what your are supposed to do.
