    Risk prevention and infrastructure management

The role of the Risk Prevention and Infrastructure Service (SPR-I) is to structure and deploy the occupational health and safety politic. The SPR-I supports the technical services, the research teams and the Subatech’s direction, for whom it acts as an advice on health and safety at work.

The service's main missions are :

    • assisting staff by discussing how to optimise handling and helping them choose protective equipment to reduce risks
    • monitoring and maintaining collective protective equipment (fume cupboards, glove boxes, hoods, anoxia detection devices, etc.). Supplying certain individual protective equipment in view of the major risks generated by our activities (chemical, mechanical, laser risks, etc.)
    • advice on controlling radiation protection. As the laboratory is subject to prior authorisation from the Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN), three members of the department act as Radiation Protection Advisors (CRP) and Radiation Protection Assistants (RA) are also present in the teams and departments handling radioactive samples and unsealed and sealed sources
    • management of waste produced by radiochemistry operations and its disposal within the framework defined by the French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (Andra)
    • monitoring and helping to organise the transport of hazardous materials (chemicals and radioactive products), in collaboration with the CNRS's national hazardous materials safety advisor and the ULISSE logistics unit
    • studying the infrastructure needs of research teams and representing the contracting authority for development and maintenance work.

For control, diagnostic and protection purposes, radiation protection advisors and prevention assistants use the laboratory's chemical and radiological analysis resources and skills.
