National mobilization in defense of science at IMT Atlantique
On the initiative of the [Stand Up for Science] (https://standupforscience.fr/) movement, the management of IMT Atlantique has launched an appeal to affirm our commitment to science and its neutrality. This mobilization, organized on April 3, was strongly supported by Subatech.
Numerous colleagues gathered at 2 p.m. sharp at the school's Forum. On this occasion, the Director of IMT Atlantique took the floor publicly, emphasizing how much the current context reminds us of the importance of defending the integrity and independence of scientific research in the face of growing political and economic pressures. He reaffirmed the need to preserve the scientific approach, which is essential to meeting the major global challenges we face: geopolitical crises, climate change, energy transitions, digital transformations, health crises, etc.
The Stand Up for Science movement reminds us that attacks on knowledge are not limited to the United States. In many countries, such as Turkey and Argentina, obscurantist offensives are jeopardizing scientific freedom. In Europe, and in France too, those who seek to “speak the truth” are increasingly vulnerable. To prevent the “Orwellian moment” experienced today across the Atlantic from becoming our reality, urgent action is needed.
