The DAMIC-M experiment delivers the first results of its search for dark matter

After three months of data collection, the prototype dark matter detector DAMIC-M, a simple 20-gram CCD sensor installed in the Modane Underground Laboratory cavern and capable of distinguishing each electron individually, has established strict constraints on the existence of ultra-light dark matter particles. This is a very promising result for the final experiment, which is scheduled to begin in a few months. DAMIC-M is a project led by the LPNHE (CNRS/Sorbonne University) with contributions from IJCLab, LPSC, and Subatech.
